About Vehicle Use Permit

The Stillwater Wildlife Area is composed of 456 acres located three miles north of the town of Carnation on SR203. The area is in King County in the floodplain of the Snoqualmie River.

The Stillwater is currently farmed by sharecroppers who leave a proportion of the crops standing for wildlife forage. The fields are 20 to 40 acres in size and ringed with brushy draws. The Snoqualmie River defines the west border of the area. Riparian forest habitat is adjacent to the river. Winter floods can inundate from 20 to 70 percent of the land. There are two small lakes which total about five acres, and a creek that runs through the center of the unit. The most visible wildlife on the area are a variety of waterfowl. Nongame birds are also abundant.

The Stillwater Wildlife Area provides the public with opportunities to hunt, fish, and train hunting dogs. The major recreational use is waterfowl hunting and pen-reared pheasant hunting. Other major uses include dog walking and training, and nature observation. There are two parking lots along Highway 203 for recreational visitors.
