How to Purchase Personalized and Wildlife License Plates

Download the appropriate Department of Licensing application form, fill out and print:   Personalized and Personalized-Special License Plate Application Form Special Background Plate Application   Call a Vehicle Licensing Office for total costs.   Hand-deliver or mail to the office location, along with the appropriate fees.

Can I purchase a license plate for all of my vehicles?

Yes. Plates are available for registered passenger vehicles, light duty pickups, trailers, motorcycles, motorhomes, RVs, 5th wheels and campers.

When can I buy a new license plate?

You can buy a plate for your vehicle at any time. You don’t have to wait until your registration is due. In fact, there are certain circumstances where you may be able to save the first renewal fee by buying early, depending on how long it is until your registration is due. The Department of Licensing recommends renewing your registration at the same time you purchase a specialized background plate. You can go to one of the many available agents or subagent offices, (on-line ordering is not available at this time.)

Where can I buy a new license plate?

At a Vehicle Licensing Offices (License plates will be mailed to you.)

NOTE: Personalized plates and Personalized-special plates may be purchased only at the King County vehicle licensing office or by mailing the application and fees to Department of Licensing in Olympia (see application for address). If renewing your vehicle registration, contact DOL at 360-902-3770 or a local vehicle licensing office for the fees.

Please be aware that there is a requirement to obtain or purchase a Discover Pass or Vehicle Access Pass to park and use WDFW lands and facilities. Please note that purchasing "Wildlife-Themed License Plates" do not exempt users from this requirement.
