DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT
ON DECEMBER 28, 2012 AT 6:45 PM THE RP WAS WATCHING TV IN HIS LIVING ROOM SITTING IN HIS RECLINER WITH HIS BACK TOWARDS THE WINDOW. THE RP SAYS THAT THE TV AND ONE LIGHT WAS ON INSIDE HIS HOUSE AND THERE WERE NO OUTSIDE LIGHTS ON. THE RP SAYS THAT WHILE HE WAS WATCHING TV A COUGAR HAD LUNGED AT HIS LIVING ROOM WINDOW APPROXIMATELY FOUR TIMES. THE RP WAS YELLING AT THE COUGAR WHICH THE COUGAR KEPT LUNGING AT THE WINDOW HITTING IT. THE RP'S SMALL DOG WAS IN ANOTHER ROOM AND HEARING THE COMMOTION RAN OUTSIDE TO FACE THE COUGAR. THE COUGAR GRABBED THE SMALL DOG AND RAN INTO THE WOODS. THE RP FOLLOWED THE COUGAR TRACKS IN THE SNOW AND FOUND HIS SMALL DOG APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE AWAY FROM HIS HOUSE DECEASED. THE RP CALLED TO REPORT THE INCIDENT AND SPOKE TO A SERGEANT. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE RP HAS SEVERAL CHICKENS AT HIS RESIDENCE THAT ARE FREE RANGING. THE NEXT MORNING ON DECEMBER 29, 2012 A SERGEANT ADVISED ME OF THE SITUATION AND I CALLED LOCAL DEPREDATION HUNTERS TO ASSIST IN INVESTIGATING THIS SITUATION. THREE HOUNDS MEN ASSISTED AND IT WAS QUICKLY CONFIRMED THAT A COUGAR HAD BEEN AT THE HOUSE BASED ON THE FRESH TRACKS IN THE SNOW. THE DOGS FOLLOWED THE TRACKS IN THE SNOW FROM THE RESIDENCE UP ONTO THE HILL AND THEN OFF THE HILL CROSSING CHUMSTICK HIGHWAY. THE DOGS CHASED THE COUGAR FROM WHERE IT HAD BEDDED DOWN AND WAS EATING A CHICKEN. THE COUGAR RAN APPROXIMATELY 150 YARDS WHERE IT WENT UP A TREE AND AT THE BASE OF THIS TREE WAS A SECOND CHICKEN THAT HAD BEEN KILLED. THE RP WAS UNAWARE THAT HE HAD LOST TWO CHICKENS. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THESE CHICKENS BELONGED TO OTHER RESIDENCES OF CHUMSTICK HIGHWAY. THE COUGAR WAS EUTHANIZED. THE COUGAR WAS A VERY SKINNY FEMALE (65 LBS ESTIMATE) WITH AN APPROXIMATE AGE OF 4 TO 5 YEARS OLD. THE TIITS OF THE COUGAR WERE DARK BROWN AND BLACK INDICATING THAT SHE HAS HAD KITTENS IN THE PAST. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PINKISH COLOR TIITS INDICATING THAT THE COUGAR HAD YOUNG KITTENS AT THIS TIME. A DNA AND PRE-MOLAR WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE COUGAR. NOTE: THE COUGAR ONLY HAD ONE PRE-MOLAR ON ITS RIGHT SIDE.
