Dangerous Wildlife Incident Reports

SPECIES
Cougar

DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT
ON 01/22/2013 AT ABOUT 2050 HRS. I RECEIVED A CALL AT HOME FROM WSP THAT A COUGAR HAD BEEN SIGHTED IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA NEAR THE CLIFFS ON THE WEST SIDE OF OROVILLE. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT ANY ACT HAD OCCURRED OTHER THAN MERE PRESENCE. (WE ARE HAVING MULTIPLE COUGAR SIGHTINGS ALL OVER THE COUNTY THESE DAYS DUE TO HEAVY CRUSTY SNOW AND DEER, THE CATS' PREY, MOVING DOWN NEAR ORCHARDS AND TOWN.) THE RP WANTED A CALL. I IMMEDIATELY TRIED HIS NUMBER AND GOT A MESSAGE THAT HIS VOICE MAIL WAS NOT SET UP. I CALLED WSP BACK AND ADVISED THEM I WAS TAKING NO FURTHER ACTION AS I AM OVER AN HOUR AWAY, IT IS DARK, NO ONE IS ESSENTIALLY ON THE STREETS AT NIGHT, AND THE CATS ARE MOVING IN BECAUSE OF DEER. IF HE CALLS BACK INSTRUCT HIM TO CALL 911 FOR OPD TO RESPOND IF IT IS DOING SOMETHING THREATENING, THEY CAN TAKE ACTION ON-VIEW. WE GOT NO MORE CALLS ON IT THEN, NOR THE NEXT DAY, SO IT SEEMS THEY MOVED OFF AS PREDICTED.
