SPECIES

DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT
A HOUNDSMAN RECEIVED A CALL FROM A WOMAN WHO REPORTED SHE HAD JUST BEEN CHASED BY A COUGAR IN HER YARD. THE HOUNDSMAN CONTACTED A FISH AND WILDLIFE OFFICER WHO WAS ABLE TO RESPOND SHORTLY AFTER THE HOUNDSMAN WAS ABLE TO TREE THE YOUNG COUGAR AND, AFTER BEING ADVISED BY THE OFFICER, DISPATCH IT. THE HOUNDSMAN SAW ANOTHER YOUNG COUGAR WHILE ON THE RP'S PROPERTY. BASED ON HIS KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE AND RECENT REPORTS OF COUGAR ACTIVITY, HE BELIEVED THIS COUGAR TO BE A LITTER MATE OF THE ONE THAT HAD JUST BEEN DISPATCHED, AND THAT THEY WERE MOTHERLESS. HE BELIEVED THIS COUGAR TO ALSO BE A DANGER, AND THE OFFICER ISSUED A DEPREDATION PERMIT TO HUNT IT. THE SECOND COUGAR WAS FOUND AND EUTHANIZED WITHIN TWO DAYS.
