DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT
CAMP STAFF REPORTED SEEING A COUGAR WITHIN 500 YARDS OF CAMP. THE COUGAR WAS SEEN LATER THAT DAY BY HIKERS WHO SAID THE COUGAR GROWLED AT THEM. A FISH AND WILDLIFE OFFICER RESPONDED AND WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A COUGAR. PRIOR TO LEAVING THE CAMP, THE OFFICER RECEIVED A CALL THAT A HORSE HAD BEEN ATTACKED BY A COUGAR VERY CLOSE BY. THE HORSE'S WOUNDS WERE SEVERE CONSISTENT WITH A COUGAR ATTACK. THE HORSE WAS TAKEN TO THE VET BUT DID NOT SURVIVE. A DEPREDATION PERMIT HAS BEEN ISSUED. ON 8/20/14 A SIGHTING WAS REPORTED OF A COUGAR FEEDING ON A ROAD KILL DEER NEAR THIS ADDRESS.
