Deadline extended to April 14 for applications
to join Wenas Target Shooting Advisory Committee
YAKIMA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has extended to April 14 the deadline for applications from people interested in serving on an advisory committee to address target shooting issues within the Wenas Wildlife Area.
The committee will include 15 to 20 members, representing the interests of neighbors, hunters, target shooters, horseback riders, mountain bike riders, motorized vehicle users, hikers, wildlife watchers, bird dog trainers, and others.
Recreational target shooting has long occurred on the 115,000-acre property, said WDFW Wildlife Area Manager Cindi Confer Morris. Located in Yakima and Kittitas counties, the wildlife area includes state and federal lands and is primarily managed by WDFW.
Candidates' applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, April, 14, to Regional Wildlife Program Manager Scott McCorquodale. Applications may be submitted by email to Scott.McCorquodale@dfw.wa.gov or mailed to him at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 1701 S 24th Ave., Yakima, WA 98902.
The Target Shooting Committee will meet in Selah at least monthly through the 2017-2018 winter season. In addition to attending committee meetings, members will also be asked to participate in public workshops and open houses.
Interested candidates can download the membership application from the Wenas Wildlife Area webpage at http://wdfw.wa.gov/lands/wildlife_areas/wenas/.
