Public meetings scheduled on Hood Canal recreational shrimp season

OLYMPIA -- Four public meetings have been set by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) to develop options for this year's Hood Canal recreational shrimp fishery.

The meetings will include presentations on the results of a recent test fishery and the findings of a questionnaire sent to Hood Canal shrimp fishers earlier this year.

The WDFW and treaty tribes have reached agreement on conservation principles for the fishery and are drafting a 1998 management plan. The recreational shrimp fishing regulations will be adopted following the public meetings.

The meetings are scheduled from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on the following dates and at these locations:

  • April 13, Chimacum High School Auditorium, 91 West Valley Rd., Chimacum
  • April 14, Shorewood High School Auditorium, 17330 Fremont Ave. North, Shoreline
  • April 15, Shelton High School Auditorium, 3737 N. Shelton Spring Rd., Shelton
  • April 16, Olympic High School Auditorium, 7070 Stampede Blvd., Bremerton
