State crews survey county road culverts
PORT TOWNSEND -- Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife employees are
conducting surveys in Jefferson County streams to identify road culverts that block fish
Landowners may see the crews or lengths of biodegradable string in the water. The
string is used to measure streams.
The Jefferson County Department of Public Works is working with WDFW to
conduct the surveys. State law requires the county to ensure that its structures in streams
allow unimpeded passage of migratory fish, such as salmon.
For more information on the project call Darrell Erfle at the public works department
at (360) 385-9218 or WDFW's Mike Barber at (360) 902-2555.
