Workshop offers women pointers on outdoor pursuits

OLYMPIA– Women who want to take up fishing, hunting and other outdoor pursuits can pick up some pointers in a September workshop sponsored by Washington Outdoor Women.

From tying a fishing fly to hitching up a boat trailer, the workshop offers hands- on activities and advice Sept. 17-19 at the Environmental Learning Center in Millersylvania State Park, south of Olympia.

Participants can choose three of 16 workshops which include archery, backpacking, camping, basic fishing, fly-tying, fly fishing, big game hunting, boat trailering, canoeing, sea kayaking, outdoor photography, shotgun handling, survival skills and wilderness navigation, wildlife identification, and plant identification and wilderness medicine. A personal preparedness workshop will be offered to all participants.

The $175 session fee includes instruction, equipment use, program materials, lodging, meals and a T-shirt.
