Rule clarification for special elk hunt in Pacific County

OLYMPIA - In a clarification of special-permit hunting rules, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) notes that all elk hunting in Pacific County is restricted to within one mile of State Route 6 including hunts conducted in Game Management Area (GMU) 672.

Due to an editing error, the geographical restrictions on hunting with modern firearms in GMU 672 was omitted in a footnote on page 41 of WDFW's 2002-03 Big Game Hunting pamphlet.

Those restrictions, stated in the pamphlet for GMUs 506 and 673, also apply to GMU 672 under rules approved by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission. The footnote should state that hunting is permitted "in that part of GMUs 506, 672 and 673 within 1 mile of SR6 between the east end of Elk Prairie Rd. and Mallis Landing Rd."

The special hunt in all three GMUs is open only to those with a permit obtained through the normal WDFW special permit process. The current hunt runs through Dec. 31, followed by two additional hunts that run Jan. 1-31 and Feb. 1-28, respectively.
