Fish and Wildlife Commission to meet January 12-13

OLYMPIA – The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will hear briefings on a number of topics, ranging from the removal of derelict fishing gear to the coastal commercial sardine fishery, at a meeting Jan. 12-13 in Olympia.

The commission, which sets policy for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), is scheduled to begin its public meeting at 8:30 a.m., Jan. 12, at 1111 Washington Street S.E., in room 172 of the Natural Resources Building. The meeting will continue Jan. 13 at 8:30 a.m.

The commission also is scheduled to be briefed on sanitary shellfish enforcement, the statewide steelhead management plan, the Youth Sport Fishing Program, winter conditions for wildlife, the Go Play Outside initiative, the Columbia River Partnership, hunters with disabilities, branch-antlered bull special permits and spike only elk hunting seasons in eastern Washington.

In addition, the commission is scheduled to consider action on amending rules for recording commercial fish and shellfish harvests. The amendments would parallel federal law and clarify rules for fishers and processors.

An agenda for the meeting is posted on the commission’s website at http://wdfw.wa.gov/com/jan1307.htm.
