Public to comment on Columbia sturgeon seasons on Jan. 19, 2000
VANCOUVER–A public meeting will be held Jan. 19 to discuss future sport sturgeon fishing opportunities in the Columbia River, the Washington and Oregon departments of Fish and Wildlife announced today.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 SE Columbia Way, Vancouver.
The agencies are trying to set seasons that will allow the annual harvest of 40,000 white sturgeon in the Columbia from its mouth to Bonneville Dam.
Fish managers from the two states anticipate some fishing closures will be necessary to keep harvests within the 40,000 annual limit over the next three years.
The managers hope to discuss the management issues with interested persons and arrive at a consensus for setting the fisheries.
Persons wishing to send written comment should send them to: John DeVore, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, 2108 Grand Blvd, Vancouver, 98661. His telephone number is (360) 906-6710.
