New website offers information on recreational license sales and demographics
OLYMPIA - Information on the ages, gender and residential areas of state fishing and hunting license holders is now available on the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's (WDFW) website.
The License Sales Reporting Site was developed in response to numerous inquiries from outdoor associations, local business and economic leaders, the news media and others.
The interactive website (at https://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/wildreports/wildinternet/index.jsp ) allows users to view recreational license sales figures by date, city or county, as well as showing the age range, gender and residential area of license buyers. The site does not display any information about specific customers or license dealers.
"This site was created to offer convenient public access to license sales data for local governments, businesses and others involved directly or indirectly in outdoor recreation," said Jim Eby, WDFW information technology manager.
According to a recent report from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, fishers, hunters and wildlife viewers contributed $2.18 billion to the Washington economy in 2001, with much of that spending in rural communities. Fishing accounted for $854 million of that spending while hunters generated approximately $350 million.
