Simplified hunting proposal under revision for 1999; public workshops slated for September
Public input workshops are scheduled for September on the revised proposal.
While a series of 15 public meetings were held on the proposal earlier this year,
the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission tabled simplification for 1998 and
directed the department to work with hunters on revisions for 1999.
Based on input received from more than 2,500 persons who attended the 15
meetings or wrote letters, and the 650 returns from a random survey of 2,000 licensed
hunters, the proposal is being revised.
WDFW's Game Advisory Council, made up of 21 citizens from across the state,
will be working with department game managers this spring and summer to develop
revised proposals for public review this fall. In late September at least six public
workshops will be held across the state for that review.
In December WDFW game managers will present a final simplified hunting
season framework to the Commission for consideration. If that framework is adopted,
the Commission will consider adoption of detailed seasons at their April 1999 meeting.
