Westport halibut fishery closes tomorrow
WESTPORT -- The recreational halibut fishery in Marine Area 2 (Leadbetter
Point to the Queets River) will close at 11:59 p.m. tomorrow, the Washington
Department of Fish and Wildlife announced today.
The area is closing because the recreational halibut harvest of 20,483 pounds
has been exceeded. Halibut caught in other Marine Areas may not be in possession in
Area 2.
Areas remaining open to halibut fishing include Marine Area 1 (Ilwaco) seven
days a week and Marine Areas 3 and 4 (LaPush and Neah Bay) Tuesdays through
Saturdays.
Marine Areas 4B and 5 - 13 (Strait of Juan de Fuca and Puget Sound) are
scheduled to open Thursday and remain open through Aug. 10 on Thursday through
Monday.
