Annual Canyon Creek fish plant delayed
OLYMPIA -- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has
delayed the annual planting of hatchery trout in Canyon Creek in Clark and Skamania
counties. Traditionally, WDFW plants the creek in time for the June 1 opening of the
stream fishing season.
The delay was caused by an unusually deep snowfall which has blocked access
to the upper creek where the fish are released. WDFW is planning to release 3,000
catchable rainbow trout into the creek when the roads have been cleared, sometime in
the next two to four weeks. Canyon Creek runs into the north fork of the Lewis River
and is a popular local fishing area.
