Fish and Wildlife Commission plans public workshop

OLYMPIA – Topics ranging from cougar management to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's (WDFW) current budget will be discussed at a public workshop scheduled Nov. 15 here by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission.

The all-day workshop, designed to give commissioners an update on issues pending action, will begin at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 15 in Room 172 of the Natural Resources Building, 1111 Washington St., in Olympia.

Public comment periods are scheduled at the beginning and end of the workshop, allowing members of the public to address the Commission on any issue relevant to fish and wildlife management.

During the workshop, WDFW staff members will brief the Commission on a range of issues, including:

  • An update on WDFW's budget for the current (2001-03) biennium
  • Cougar management and elk populations as they relate to the development of hunting seasons for 2003-2005
  • On-going WDFW projects and studies involving mule deer, caribou and cougar
  • Management of the coastal pollock fishery
  • The impact of catch-and-release fisheries on sturgeon in Lake Roosevelt
  • Various proposals for 2003-04 sportfishing rules

The complete Commission workshop agenda can be found on the WDFW website.
