WDFW accepts nominations to fishing advisory groups
OLYMPIA - The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is currently accepting nominations to two key advisory groups on the state's salmon and sturgeon fisheries.
Up to 20 qualified individuals will be chosen to serve as advisors to each group in 2001, one representing the interests of sport fishers, the other representing the interests of commercial fishers. Both groups provide guidance to WDFW in setting fishing seasons, communicating policies to fishers and other matters.
Nominations will be accepted through Dec. 7.
"Our advisory groups play an important role in keeping the agency apprised of the thoughts and concerns of sport and commercial fishers," said WDFW Intergovernmental Policy Coordinator Pat Pattillo. "We're looking for individuals who have experience in these areas and are willing to serve for at least one year."
The Anadromous and Marine Sport Fishing Advisory Group advises WDFW on issues affecting recreational fisheries for salmon, sturgeon and marine fish. The Commercial Salmon Fishing Advisory Group advises the agency on commercial salmon fisheries off the Washington coast and in the Columbia River, Willapa Bay, Grays Harbor and Puget Sound.
Each group meets approximately four times a year, including during the North-of-Falcon process when annual fishing seasons are established.
Information about the nomination process is available on the agency's website at www.wdfw.wa.gov/fish/advisnom.htm. Additional questions about nominations can be addressed to Pat Pattillo at (360) 902-2705.
