Upper Columbia salmon harvest, hatchery issues to be discussed at Oct. 28 Chelan meeting
Upper Columbia River salmon harvest and hatchery issues will be discussed at a public meeting scheduled October 28, 6:30 - 9 p.m., at Chelan Fire House #7, 232 E. Wapato, in Chelan.
The meeting is sponsored by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), the Governor's Salmon Recovery Office, and the Upper Columbia Salmon Recovery Board.
Information, including maps and brochures, about salmon recovery in the Upper Columbia River region will be available at the meeting. A panel discussion will include representatives from WDFW, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Fisheries (formerly National Marine Fisheries Service), the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, and the Yakama Nation.
The Upper Columbia River region includes Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties. The Upper Columbia Salmon Recovery Board is comprised of one county commissioner from each of those three counties and one representative from each of the tribes.
