Skagit River to open to salmon fishing Saturday
MOUNT VERNON -- Part of the Skagit River will open to sport salmon fishing at 12:01 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 17), the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced today.
The river will be open to sport fishing from the mouth to the Cascade River.
The limit is two salmon daily, chinook must be released.
WDFW biologists said the river was opening to salmon fishing on Saturday because harvestable numbers of fish have returned.
The river was scheduled to open to salmon fishing on Nov. 1. The 1998 "Fishing in Washington" regulation pamphlet says coho must be released during the Nov. 1-Dec. 31 season. Because of the number of coho returning, two salmon, except chinook, per day may be kept through Dec. 31.
