Hatchery offers salmon viewing opportunities to public
ORTING -- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's Orting (Voights
Creek) Fish Hatchery offers a great opportunity for adults and children to see large
coho and chinook salmon returning from the ocean to spawn.
Salmon raised at the hatchery provide fishing in the Puyallup River as well as
Puget Sound and the ocean. The hatchery also produces steelhead to provide fishing
opportunities.
Adult coho and chinook can be viewed at the facility, which is celebrating its 80th
anniversary, through November.
The hatchery is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through
Friday.
The Orting Hatchery is located on Highway 162 two miles southeast of Orting.
Contact the hatchery at (360) 893-6440 for additional information.
