Everett area waters to open to sport crab pot fishing

OLYMPIA– Recreational crab pot fishing for all crab species will open at 8 a.m., Saturday (April 3) in Marine Area 8-2 (Port Susan and Port Gardner), the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife announced today.

Recent test fishing by WDFW and Tulalip tribal biologists determined that Dungeness crab in the area have finished molting and their shells are hard enough to allow pot fishing.

The area opened March 27 for sport ring net, SCUBA, star trap fishing and wading for Dungeness crabs.

Marine Area 8-2 lies east of a line extending from East Point on Whidbey Island to the flashing light immediately north of Lowell Point on Camano Island, and northward of a line extending from Possession Point on Whidbey Island to the visible shipwreck near Picnic Point on the mainland.
