Two Whidbey Island beaches opened early for shellfish harvest
OLYMPIA -- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has
opened two Whidbey Island public beaches early this year for the recreational harvest
of clams, cockles and mussels.
- Winas-Maylor Point-East will remain open until further notice
- Ben Ure (Ala) Spit, open through June 15.
This action was taken to provide opportunities where sufficient clams are
available.
Shellfish harvesting on Puget Sound beaches requires a Shellfish/Seaweed
licence which may be purchased at most sporting goods stores and at all WDFW
regional offices.
