Meetings to focus on groundfish restoration

OLYMPIA -- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has scheduled three public meetings in April to present and discuss a plan to protect and restore Puget Sound's stocks of rockfish, lingcod, sole and other groundfish species.

The draft Puget Sound Groundfish Management Plan proposes conservative and ecosystem-based management principles for the groundfish stocks, many of which are in very poor condition.

The draft plan provides the framework for developing more specific management and restoration efforts.

The meeting schedule is:

  • Seattle: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 23 at the Tahoma 2 conference room, Mountaineers Club, 300 3rd St. W
  • Port Angeles: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 28 at the A12 conference room, Peninsula Community College, 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.
  • Bellingham: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 30 Room 144 Squalicum Harbor Center, Port of Bellingham, 1801 Roeder Ave.
Persons needing special accommodation at any of the meetings should call Norma Wright at (360) 902-2707.
