OLYMPIA -- Fishers must begin releasing spot shrimp caught in some northern Puget Sound waters as of 12:01 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 15).

Portions of Puget Sound closing to the retention of spot shrimp are Marine Areas 8-1 (Deception Pass, Hope Island and Skagit Bay), 8-2 (Port Susan and Port Gamble) and 10 (Seattle/Bremerton) and the following part of 9: south and east of a line from Foulweather Bluff to Double Bluff. Also closing is Shrimp District One (waters south of a line from McMurdy Point on the Quimper Peninsula to the norther tip of Protection Island then to Rocky Point on the Miller Peninsula and all waters of Discovery Bay).

All spot shrimp caught in those waters must be returned immediately and unharmed to the water.

Fishers may retain spot shrimp caught on Saturdays as part of a daily 10-pound shrimp limit in Shrimp District Three.

Spot shrimp must be released unharmed immediately on other days of the week.

Shrimp District Three is defined as Port Angeles harbor inside Ediz Hook west of a line from the tip of the hook to the ITT Rayonier Dock.
