2002-03 fishing, hunting licenses now available at dealers

Just in time for holiday gift buying, Washington 2002-03 fishing, hunting, and other licenses are now available for purchase at hundreds of license vendors and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) offices across the state.

Current fishing and hunting licenses are valid through March 31, 2002, so fishers or hunters whose seasons continue into the new year are covered.

New licenses, valid from April 1, 2002 through March 31, 2003, can easily be purchased as gifts. If the recipient is currently licensed, only the name and birth date are required to access the Washington Interactive Licensing Database (WILD). The rest of the required information (address, phone, social security number, height, weight, color of eyes) is already in the computerized licensing system. If the recipient is not currently licensed, the purchaser needs to have all of the required information on hand at the time of the sale.

Names and locations of all license vendors are available by region on the department's website. Licenses can also be purchased with a credit card over the phone at 1-866-246-9453 or via the Internet at http://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov/.

The rates for fishing and hunting licenses and access stewardship decals are the same as this year. Including the 9.5 percent transaction fee to cover the cost of the computerized system, a resident adult freshwater fishing license is $21.90, saltwater is $19.71, shellfish/seaweed is $7.67, and a combination license is $39.42; resident adult hunting licenses vary with packaging options from the small game license alone at $32.85 to the deer/elk/cougar/bear combination license for $72.27.

Access stewardship decals, required to use WDFW water access sites and wildlife areas and complimentary with fishing and hunting licenses, can be purchased for non-fishing/non-hunting recreationists for $10.
