People interested in goose hunting and related issues may air their views at a public meeting sponsored by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife from 7 to 9:30 p.m., Jan. 8, at the Quilcene School District cafeteria.
Earlier this year the Fish and Wildlife Commission closed the September early goose hunting season in Quilcene Bay because of public safety concerns about the hunt. Commissioners asked WDFW officials to work with citizens to address those concerns. The public meeting will begin that public-input process.
A citizens' work group will be formed to address concerns identified by meeting participants and wildlife managers. WDFW has until February to develop options and report back to the Fish and Wildlife Commission, which will set goose hunting seasons in April.
"It's important that we work with everyone affected to develop solid options for the future," said Sara LaBorde, Regional Director.
The Quilcene School District is located at 294715 Highway 101, at the center of Quilcene.
