OLYMPIA - The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and a number of its employees have been recognized for record-breaking participation in the state's 2004 Combined Fund Drive (CFD) charity campaign.
The department won recognition for the greatest increase of employee pledges by any state agency over the previous year's levels. During the 2004 campaign, which ran from Sept. 15 to Oct. 31, 706 WDFW employees pledged a total of $50,498 to the CFD. The 2003 campaign resulted in a total pledge of $40,885 from 287 WDFW employees.
The year-to-year increase in employee participation is the highest in the state, while the increase in pledges is the second-largest increase of all large state agencies.
Individual WDFW employees were also honored for their work on the campaign. Jeanette Laws, a Supply Officer-1, and Celia Roberts, an Administrative Assistant-4, received recognition as outstanding local coordinators for the CFD, while the agency's campaign leaders - Brandy Chinn and Jairus Green - were nominated for the Campaign Leader of the Year award.
Two WDFW fundraiser events - the "garage sale chili feed" and the "Capitol Way breakfast" - were also nominated for awards.
The CFD is Washington state's workplace charitable giving program. As part of the CFD program, state employees and retirees can select from over 1900 nonprofit organizations ranging from human services, the arts or the environment. Employees also have the option to write in a favorite charity.
"These awards signify our employees' generosity and our Combined Fund Drive volunteers' commitment to improving our community," said WDFW Director Jeff Koenings. "I am proud of everyone who participated in the 2004 campaign, and I hope we can achieve even higher levels of participation and contributions in this year's fund drive."
