Review of hunting rule proposals set for Feb. 22, 2003 in Ephrata

EPHRATA - Hunters and others interested in game management in north-central Washington can meet Feb. 22 with local wildlife biologists to review proposed hunting rules for 2003-05 before a final plan is adopted in April.

The open-house meeting will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) Northcentral Regional Office, 1550 Alder St. NW, in Ephrata.

Northcentral Washington deer hunting will be the major focus of the session, although other hunting issues and concerns will be addressed. WDFW wildlife biologists who monitor and manage wildlife populations in Adams, Grant, Douglas, Chelan, and Okanogan counties will be available to explain proposals and answer questions.

Matt Monda, regional WDFW wildlife manager, said the open house in Ephrata is designed to follow up on meetings held throughout the state last month to discuss proposed hunting rules for the next three-year cycle. With input from that public comment period, more detailed proposals are being crafted to address local wildlife population concerns and recreational opportunities.

More information on 2003-05 hunting package proposals will be posted later this month on the WDFW website at http://wdfw.wa.gov

Written comments on proposed 2003-05 regional hunting rules must be submitted by Feb. 24 to Dave Ware, game division manager, WDFW, 600 Capitol Way N., Olympia, WA 98501.

Public comment will also be taken on final WDFW hunting season recommendations before the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission when it meets April 11-12 in Moses Lake.

Additional information on hunting season options is available on the department's website on the Internet.
