WDFW employee arrested on suspicion of theft

MOSES LAKE - A seasonal laborer employed by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has been arrested on suspicion of felony theft and possession of illegal substances, the Department reported today.

Jeff G. Estes, who since 1991 has worked as a seasonal laborer assigned to noxious weed control duties in the Columbia Basin area, was arrested at his home in Moses Lake Thursday night by Moses Lake Police Department and State Fish and Wildlife officers.

The arrest came after officers discovered a state-owned boat at Estes' residence. The boat allegedly had been altered to disguise the fact it was owned by the state.

Officers also discovered illegal substances at the residence.

Estes, 31, was booked into Grant County Jail.

WDFW Capt. Steve Dauma said WDFW officers were continuing their investigation in conjunction with the Moses Lake Police Department. Estes, who was scheduled to return to his state duties March 1, will not be re-assigned to work pending disposition of the charges.
