The deadline for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) annual spring turkey raffle has been extended until March 10, giving turkey hunters an extra two weeks to purchase tickets for the chance to hunt one month longer and take an additional three birds this year.
Two winners, selected at random by computer drawing, will each be allowed to hunt wild turkeys statewide from April 1 to May 31, compared to the regular spring hunting season of April 15 to May 15. Winners will also be awarded three additional turkey tags. Raffle winners can use these extra tags to take up to two bearded turkeys in eastern Washington, and one bearded turkey in western Washington.
Interested hunters have three ways of purchasing raffle tickets, which are $5 per chance:
- In person at any hunting license agent statewide;
- Over the phone by calling toll-free 1-866-246-9453; or
- Via the Internet, at http://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov.
The deadline for all raffle purchases is midnight on March 10.
Winners will be notified by phone, and must buy a small game license, which is $30 for a state resident, or $16 with proof of a big game license. Permits and the three additional raffle turkey tags will be mailed to the winners after the small game license and Washington Interactive Licensing Database system ID number have been verified.
The raffle is a way for the agency to get additional funds for turkey management, said Mick Cope, WDFW's upland game section manager.
