Express yourself and help fish and wildlife with license tab savings

OLYMPIA--With Washington drivers enjoying large reductions in the cost of licensing their vehicles due to Initiative 695, now is a good time to make a personal statement and assist some of Washington fish and wildlife species while you're at it.

Purchasing a personalized license plate from the state Department of Licensing is the way to do that. The initial plate fee of a personalized plate for a vehicle is $46. It is $44.50 for motorcycles, trailers and campers. After that there is a $30 renewal fee each year.

The good news is $40 from the initial purchase of a personalized license goes to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's Diversity Program, and every penny of the subsequent renewal fees goes to the program.

WDFW's Diversity Program manages the state's non-hunted species. They include bald eagles, peregrine falcons, spotted owls, pygmy rabbits, Columbian white- tailed deer and woodland caribou. The program focuses on species that are in jeopardy of disappearing from Washington. It also works to keep healthy species in good shape by protecting fish and wildlife habitat and forming partnerships with citizen and governmental groups.
