The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will hold a public meeting on August 3 to discuss a proposal to rehabilitate West Medical Lake. The meeting will be held at Medical Lake City Hall from 7 to 9 p.m.
The popular trout lake just west of the town of Medical Lake was last rehabilitated in 1993. The fishery has since deteriorated due to growing populations of goldfish and sunfish.
Lake rehabilitation involves treatment of the water with the natural chemical rotenone to kill fish. Rotenone is non-persistent in the environment and is not toxic to humans at the levels used to control fish. After treatment, lakes are re-stocked with hatchery trout to restore sport fishing.
