WDFW boat ramp on Lewis River scheduled to close for renovations

WOODLAND – The public boat ramp at the Martin Water Access Site on the Lewis River in southern Cowlitz County will be closed August 6-18 for renovations.

The access site, owned by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW), is located three miles south of Woodland on Pekin Road.

During the closure, a WDFW crew will install a new boat ramp and upgrade the parking lot to include paved accessible parking.

While the ramp will remain closed throughout the entire construction period, other portions of the site will remain open to allow bank fishing and swimming.

Parking will be available evenings and weekends, although occasional closures for paving will occur on short notice through September. Those closures will be posted when possible to the WDFW website at http://wdfw.wa.gov/lands/water_access/30065/.

Shane Belson, WDFW water access coordinator, said the closure was necessary during the busy month of August due to permitting requirements for in-water work and the need to take advantage of favorable tides.

During the closure, boaters can access the Columbia River by way of Lake River by launching at the Ridgefield Waterfront, operated by the Port of Ridgefield. Daily permits are required and available at the boat launch.
