Hood Canal shrimp season is closed
OLYMPIA -- The 1997 Hood Canal recreational shrimp season has
closed for the year, the Washington Department of Fish and
Wildlife announced today.
The final fishing day was June 4.
Department biologists today completed their analysis and
determined only 1,600 pounds remain in the non-Indian share.
That is not enough shrimp to allow another day of harvesting.
Non-Indians harvested 89,900 pounds during this year's five-day
season. Most fishers caught their 80-shrimp limits each day the
season was open.
