Crab Creek fishing closure focus of March 22,2002 meeting

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has scheduled a meeting for March 22 in Moses Lake to discuss a fishing regulation change that closes a portion of Crab Creek in Grant County to all fishing annually from March 1 to May 31.

Agency representatives will outline the need for the annual three-month closure, and the public rule adoption process as well as hearing additional public comment at the meeting, which is set for 7-9 p.m. at the Moses Lake Fire Department Station, 701 E. 3rd St. in Moses Lake.

The fishing regulation change, which was approved in February by the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission, addresses enforcement issues related to walleye in the lower portion of Crab Creek, between State Route 17 upstream to Grant County Road 7 NE, near Moses Lake.

This year the Crab Creek regulation change will only be in effect for May, but beginning next year the fishing closure will be in effect for the entire three-month period when walleye are spawning in lower Crab Creek.
