You can learn how to make your yard "wildlife friendly" at the second annual Backyard Bird and Plant Fair June 2 -3 near Deer Park, just north of Spokane in northeast Washington.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) and its Backyard Wildlife Sanctuary program will be featured at the fair. It runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 2 and Sunday, June 3, rain or shine, at the Firwood Nursery, 8403 W. Burroughs Road in Deer Park.
WDFW staff will be on site selling the backyard program's $5 informational packet, which includes program topics such as landscaping, supplemental feeding, and problem wildlife.
The fair will also feature guided tours of the wildlife friendly landscape, identification of plant life, and gardening tips from Spokane County Extension and Master Gardener Program.
Members of the Spokane Audubon Society and local vendors of backyard bird and garden supplies will also be on site.
