State seeks advisory committee members
for Teanaway Community Forest

OLYMPIA - The Washington state departments of Natural Resources (DNR) and Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) are seeking applications through June 10 for the citizen-based Teanaway Community Forest Advisory Committee.

The advisory committee provides advice to the agencies about the ongoing management of the forest.

The committee will represent the interests of governments, communities, and stakeholder groups and will reflect the priorities of the broad cross-section of Washingtonians who cherish the forest.

The departments will accept applications from interested citizens and nominations from organizations that wish to be represented. Committee members will be expected to attend monthly or quarterly meetings, beginning July 23. Meetings are typically held in Cle Elum. Members will serve two- or three-year terms.

The deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 10. Applications are available online at http://www.dnr.wa.gov/Teanaway or by contacting Teanaway Community Forest Planner Eric Winford at (509) 925-0982.

Background

Washington state established the 50,241-acre Teanaway Community Forest in 2013. The forest is managed jointly by DNR and WDFW with input from the 20-member advisory committee. Initial members were appointed more than a year ago to develop a forest management plan. Upcoming work will focus on implementing the pending plan and developing a more detailed recreation plan.
