A Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) proposal to restore estuary and intertidal habitat on a diked island at the mouth of the Skagit River will be discussed in a public meeting in Mount Vernon Friday (Oct. 16).
The meeting at 7 p.m. in Hearing Room C of the Skagit County Administration Building, 700 S. Second St., is an opportunity for the public to comment on the proposal.
The property, known as the farmed island segment of the Skagit Wildlife Area, is currently managed by WDFW as a winter feeding area for waterfowl that migrate to the Skagit River delta. This proposal would modify management of the area to provide additional habitat for juvenile salmon.
For more information on the proposal contact Lyle Nelson, WDFW Region 4 lands manager, at (425) 775-1311 in Mill Creek.
