Catch and release required for salmon in Marine Areas 5 and 6 beginning Sunday
OLYMPIA -- Salmon angling will be restricted to catch-and-release fishing in
Marine Areas 5 (Sekiu and Pillar Point) and 6 (eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca)
beginning at 11:59 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 7), the Washington Department of Fish and
Wildlife announced.
The restriction applies to all salmon species. The restriction will remain in effect
through Sept. 15 when salmon fishing closes in the areas.
Department biologists expect anglers to have harvested the coho catch guideline
of 44,000 fish by Sunday.
Marine Area 4 (Neah Bay) has had a catch-and-release surface fly salmon
fishery since Sept. 1. That fishery closes Sept. 14.
