Emergency regulations protect steelhead in east fork of Lewis and Kalama rivers
OLYMPIA -- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has enacted
emergency fishing restrictions to protect extremely low runs of wild summer steelhead
returning to the east fork of the Lewis River and to the Kalama River.
Beginning at 12:01 a.m. Sept. 20 the east fork of the Lewis will be closed to
fishing upstream of Sunset Falls.
As of the same date, anglers must use artificial flies or lures with single barbless
hooks in the Kalama from the Kalama Falls Hatchery to Summers Creek. The area
upstream of Summers Creek currently is open to fly fishing only.
