Public to review wildlife winter feeding program at Moxee meeting
OLYMPIA -- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife will hold a public
meeting on its legislative proposals for funding for a wildlife winter feeding program at 7
p.m. Sept. 29 at the Moxee City Hall.
Moxee City is located southeast of Yakima.
Last year's harsh winter threatened thousands of elk, deer and upland birds in
central and eastern Washington. Many of the animals starved despite the efforts of the
department and many volunteers to feed them.
In anticipation of future winter emergencies, the department is proposing
legislation to fund an emergency feeding program. Details of the proposals will be
discussed with the public at the Sept. 29 meeting.
Persons interested in attending the meeting should take Interstate 82 south from
Yakima and turn east on Highway 24. Continue on Highway 24 for four miles to Moxee
City and turn left at the main Moxee City intersection. Moxee City Hall is the first
building on the right.
