Subject: Pheasant release program

I would like to commend Mr Mick Cope and his team on the quality of the pheasants raised for the release program this year. As I understood it a disease required culling of the breeding stock this spring, requiring procurement of breeding stock from other sources. The birds this year are healthier, more active, and feistier than ever.

My thanks to Mr. Cope for keeping this program going in the face of significant opposition both within and outside of the WDFW. I volunteer a fairly good portion of my weekends to pick up and release the birds at the Bayview release site (Whidbey Island). I do it because I enjoy the sport and feel it provides valuable lessons to younger hunters, two of which are my son and daughter. The son, by the way, (at 11 years old) has managed to outshoot his dad so far this year.

Thanks, again Mick, for the experience and the opportunity to bond and mentor my children.
