Proceeds from the sale of Washington migratory bird validation stamps, and limited edition artwork are used to improve habitat for waterfowl and other migratory birds in Washington. Prints are available through Steiner Prints at (800) 225-3971 and stamps are sold through WDFW license vendors.

You can invest in the future of Washington's diverse habitat resources for waterfowl and other migratory birds. Your purchase of one or more Washington State Migratory Bird Stamps and artwork represents not only a sound personal financial investment for you, but also a contribution to a program dedicated to improve our state's migratory bird habitat.

Migratory bird habitat in Washington sustains our breeding population of ducks, geese, mourning doves, band-tailed pigeons, and other migratory birds, but also numerous other birds that breed in Alaska, western Canada and even Russia. Over 35 species and subspecies of migratory birds depend on Washington migratory bird habitat, including coastal estuaries, ponds, sloughs, lakes, forests, and agricultural areas.

Revenue from the sale of stamps to hunters and collectors is dedicated to buy and develop migratory bird habitat, and to enhance, protect, and produce migratory birds in the state. Revenue from the sale of artwork (limited edition prints, posters, pins, etc.) is dedicated for contracts with individuals or nonprofit organizations to develop migratory bird production projects in Washington. The Department has used funds from stamps and artwork to fund cooperative habitat projects with Ducks Unlimited, Washington Duck Hunters, Audubon Society, and many local sports groups. Funding is available for projects to benefit waterfowl production (contact [360] 902-2522).

Since it began in 1986, the migratory bird stamp and artwork program has been responsible for several significant improvements in the quality and quantity of migratory bird habitat in Washington by:

Migratory bird stamps are now part of validation stickers attached to licenses issued by automated licensing terminals. A person who obtains a migratory bird stamp in the form of a validation sticker may obtain a state migratory bird stamp free of charge by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope with proof of purchase to WDFW License Division by March 31. Collectors and other persons can purchase one or more migratory bird stamps without purchasing a small game license. Funds from sales of the migratory bird stamps (including those sold as part of validation stickers) and limited edition artwork sales are dedicated for migratory bird habitat projects in Washington. For more information, please contact the Wildlife Program at 360-902-2515.
