The Washington Migratory Bird Stamp Program has been active in enhancing wetlands and upland habitat at the Skagit Wildlife Area since 1993, affecting over 600 acres. Most recent projects have included enhancement of habitat in the Samish Flats, Debays Slough, and Fir Island areas, including annual farming of 150 acres at the Welts Unit on Samish Flats. These projects have benefitted snow geese, swans, and dabbling ducks. Funding has also been received from a variety of partners, including the Pacific Coast Joint Venture, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, North American Wetlands Conservation Council, Ducks Unlimited, Washington Waterfowl Association, Trumpeter Swan Society, and private donations.
