Recreational Opportunities      Submission Type: Public
Region: Coast
Species covered in proposed rule
 • Trout
Rule to Change:
Catch and Release only for Searun Cutthroat trout
New Rule Proposal:
Retention of one sea run cutthroat trout Minimum size 15 inches
Why the change is needed:
I'm a recreational advisor for the Willapa Bay North of Falcon process. I support and promote freshwater recreational fishing where ever wild or hatchery stocks allow fishing opportunity. The North Nemah River has good quantity of wild Searun cutthroat trout of good size to re-open this tributary for fishing opportunity.
Names of individuals or groups with whom you have discussed this change:
Willapa Bay Advisory Counsel -WDFW Ron Warren Steve Thiesfield Chad Herring
Describe their support and/or concerns:
A bay wide genetic testing of searun cutthroat populations would confirm or dispute adequate populations for recreational opportunities to resume. Due to budget restraints at this time, it's unlikely funding for a massive review will be available anytime in the future. I have placed this proposal at the North of Falcon process for the last 4 years. I'm available for further consultation or a fishing demonstration on the river to support my statements.
