Species covered in proposed rule
 • Steelhead
Rule to Change:
The Humptulips River (including the West Fork) is open until March 31(Selective gear rules March 1-March 31) for fishing for steelhead.
New Rule Proposal:
Since it is selective gear rules with little or no harm to wild steelhead, I propose extending the season until April 15 to allow more recreational opportunity.
Why the change is needed:
To allow more recreational opportunity on this river with catch and release and selective gear rules in place. From a biological standpoint, there would be very little chance of harming wild steelhead.

Short Title
Increase steelhead fishing opportunity on the Humptulips River.

The current abundance of wild steelhead in the Humptulips is not adequate to support increased hooking and handling mortality. The current rule is appropriate from a conservation perspective.
