Commission to consider 2020-2021 hunting season setting, cougar harvest guidelines during April meeting

OLYMPIA – The Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission will hold a workshop on hatchery reform as well as consider elk general seasons and recreational cougar harvest guidelines during its April 9-10 virtual meeting.  

The Commission will kick off its meeting at 9 a.m. Thursday, April 9, with a hatchery reform workshop and briefing on key findings of the policy evaluation review report.

The meeting will also include briefings and presentations on implementing the Hydraulic Project Bill 1579 and the Hatchery and Fishery Reform Policy Review project.

The Commission will take open public comment on Friday morning and will take public comment on specific items throughout the meeting. Commission members are scheduled to make final decisions regarding the 2020-2021 hunting seasons for deer, elk, small game, and migratory birds, and may adopt changes to the cougar harvest guidelines.

The Commission is a citizen panel appointed by the governor that sets policy for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).
