The proposed season for this year's Hood Canal shrimp fishery will be the subject of two public meetings set by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW). The meetings also will include presentations on the results of the 1997 shrimp test fishery in Hood Canal.

The WDFW and treaty tribes have reached agreement on conservation principles for Hood Canal shrimp management and are drafting a 1997 management plan for the fishery. The department will adopt recreational shrimp fishing regulations after the public meetings.

The meetings are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. April 29 at Evergreen Elementary School Auditorium, 807 W. Pine Street, in Shelton and from 7 to 9 p.m. May 1 at Central Kitsap High School Auditorium, 3700 NW Anderson Hill Road, in Silverdale.
